“I never thought I would have a $13 electric bill...”

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

"I went solar with Shine this summer and it has been a great experience! Their original proposal for how much money I would save has been spot on. My billing cycle with the local utility was a little funny for the first 2 months after installation (a 10 day cycle, then a 50 day cycle), but on my first normal cycle my electric utility bill was only $13. My utility payment plus my solar loan payment is less than I was paying for electricity before. Better yet, when my solar loan is paid off I'll ONLY be paying roughly $13 per month for my electricity! Shine Solar was great to work with and everything they told me would happen has happened just as they said it would."

Have questions?

We have answers.

How long does the install take?

This depends on how big your system is. The average install time for Shine customers is one day. That includes the installers attaching the racking, panels, inverter(s), the disconnect, and the wiring, as well as getting everything ready for your utility to change your meter to a new, bi-directional net meter that allows you to sell excess power back to your utility.

How long is the warranty?

All of the panels and equipment Shine uses for your solar panel system come with a standard 25-year manufacturer's warranty. We also provide a minimum production guarantee for every year the warranty is in effect. It's important to note that over time, your solar panels will become less efficient. However, this gradual degradation will be 10% or less over this period and Shine will provide you with information on what to expect each year.

How many panels do I need?

This depends on many factors. What is your past energy usage? How big is your home? How many people are living there? Is there any shading on your roof? Does your home have a good orientation toward the sun? Is your roof an odd shape that limits the area where solar panels can be installed? Is there any shading that limits sunlight during the day? These and many other factors all need to be considered when designing your system. So, even though you may require a 7 kW system, the number of panels required to achieve that amount of power will be determined by the answer to these questions and it is different for everyone.

Is solar power different?

Will I have to buy new appliances when I get my solar system installed? Or, how is the power going to be different from regular power that I get from the grid? The answer is simply: AC power, alternating current power, is AC power, right? The solar panels are turning a direct current that they produce into an AC current that your home uses for power. It's the same AC electrical current that you're pulling from the grid. Solar power doesn't look any different from grid power, and so, no, everything stays the same. All your power looks the same.

What is Net Metering?

Net metering is an industry term used to describe the ability of a solar panel owner to sell any excess power they generate back to their electric utility. This is done by installing a special bi-directional meter that will run backward crediting your account during times when your solar system is generating more power than you are using. Net metering is mandated by law in every state Shine serves except Tennessee. All power sold back to your electric utility will be paid to you as a credit on your electric bill. Oftentimes, the credits are enough to eliminate all charges except for the grid connection fee, which is charged to all utility customers and ranges from $15-$25 per month on average.

What about the weight on my roof?

Solar panel systems are very light and do not have any adverse effects on your home's roof. Each panel weighs approximately 40 lbs. and is installed horizontally on a sturdy racking system that distributes its weight evenly and opposite of your roof's vertical rafters. In addition, each penetration made into your roof to install the racking system is properly flashed and sealed so it will not cause water leaks.

Can I Add Panels Later?

Absolutely. Sometimes life circumstances change, and you need more power. Or, maybe you just want to install a solar panel system as a supplemental energy source with the option to expand it later. If this is the case, just let us know and we will design your solar panel system for expansion should you choose to do so later.

Do I need a permit?

In most cases, you will require a permit of some sort to install your solar system. Oftentimes, several permits are required. However, one of the benefits of using a professional solar panel installer like Shine is that we take care of all permitting on your behalf and we ensure it complies with the necessary requirements.

Does it need to go on the roof?

No. Most solar panel systems are installed on the roof because it is more affordable. However, if your roof is an odd shape and isn't well oriented toward the sun, you can install a ground-mounted system if you have the space available. This will increase the cost of your system, but oftentimes it is a reliable alternative and one some people prefer.

What about hail?

While not indestructible, solar panels are designed to withstand extreme weather situations while continuing to operate normally. One of these conditions is hail. Most solar panels in the U.S. are certified to withstand hailstorms with up to one-inch hail falling at 50 miles per hour, which is greater than what most home roofs can tolerate. In this way, your solar system actually helps protect your roof from hail damage.
